Lemon balm oil can penetrate the skin layer and treat the herpes virus directly. If you don't have Lemon balm oil on hand, Tea Tree oil or Clove Bud oil would be an excellent substitutes.

    How to use Lemon Balm oil for cold sores : Dilute lemon balm essential oil with a carrier oil and apply it to the cold sore with a cotton swab three or four times a day for best results.
